[AY 2024 – 2025] Waste Management Campaign

The Waste Management Campaign (WMC) is a strategic initiative launched to build a comprehensive, sustainable waste system across VinUni.

Centered on two major areas: general waste sorting and recycling and food waste reduction and management, the campaign aligns with the Circular Economy 10-Rs Framework, guiding action from the most sustainable (Refuse, Reduce) to the more energy-intensive (Recycle, Recover).

WMC addresses two core problems: ineffective waste sorting leading to contamination and low recycling rates, and excessive food waste due to overproduction and poor portion control.

To tackle these, WMC sets out 3 OBJECTIVES

Objective 1
Installing structured sorting bins with monitoring systems

Old sorting bins
New sorting bins

Objective 2
Engaging at least 60% of the campus community in food waste-related activities over two semesters

Objective 3
Partnering with vendors and suppliers to implement composting and food waste diversion systems

Key initiatives include

  1. Campus-wide waste audits to monitor and improve sorting accuracy

2. Educational campaigns through infographics, events, and digital content

3. Infrastructure upgrades like compost bins and food redistribution mechanisms

4. Partnerships with NGOs and local composting vendors for implementation

Stakeholders, including VinUni operations, EcoQuity, students, food vendors, and recycling partners, will collaborate to reshape behaviors and systems. With strong community engagement, WMC aims to create a long-term culture of sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, and position VinUni as a leader in campus circularity.
